Leona was born in Williston, North Dakota in 1915 to Peter Frederick Peterson and Laurena Marie Lauritsen of Copenhagen, Denmark. She attended Williston High School and graduated in 1935. Leona went to the senior prom with John Wesley Jennison, who she later married in 1942. The young couple subsequently moved to California.

They had two children, Patricia Marie (Jennison Wickum) and John Wesley Jr., after settling in Santa Monica, California. They subsequently moved to Mar Vista where the family lived for over 50 years. Leona was a stay-at-home mom until Patricia and John were in high school when she became the Administrative Secretary to the Superintendent of the Culver City School District. After retiring, she worked as the office manager in her son's law firm for several years.

Leona enjoyed home projects, golf, tennis and traveling. She was also an excellent seamstress. She was a member of St. John's Guild and the Breakfast and Bible Study at St. Bede's Episcopal Church (Parish), Dewey Dames and PEO. She was always very supportive of her family and participated in many of their endeavors.

Leona and John were married 59 years until John's death in 2001. Leona is survived by her daughter, Patricia, son, John, grandchildren Charles, Jessica and Jason and great-grandchildren, Ocean, Kai and Milan.

The family would like to thank Mariana Franco of Franco Residential Home Care and the Franco family for their loving care of Leona in her senior years, and Reverend Argola E. Haynes for her faithful weekly visits. Leona passed peacefully, surrounded by friends and family members. Arrangements are through Gates, Kingsley and Gates Smith Salsbury Funeral Directors in Culver City, California. A memorial service with reception will be held at St. Bede's Parish in Mar Vista, California on April 26, 2015 at 1 PM.
